Battles - Mirrored. I love the cover but I'm not sure what to make of the album. It's good however I'm not sure if I've drank the cool aid.Jeff Tweedy wrote in the Times: "I like my math rock to have a pedigree." I guess that's what it takes.
Interpol - Our Love to Admire - I loathe to say this but it is more of the same. If I was 16 I would love this record because I wold love the band. I bet their fourth record will be good. This has some good songs however I feel that I've heard them before. It neeeds a sense of newness. Oh yes, Paul Banks needs to stop writing lyrics that rhyme with guile. Like I said, were I 16...
The National - Alligator - Their first album. seeing that Boxer is my fave so far this year, I had to hear where they came from. It's rougher and rawer but still has this dark humour and romanticism that I seem to be drawn to.
The Sea and Cake - Everbody. I will always love and admire this band.
Feist - The Reminder
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky - I have no idea what "Impossible Germany is about but I'm not sure I'm going to explore it. The song is the most beautiful walk. I must play more. Just for the air.
The National - Boxer - So I cannot get this album out of my head. I go to sleep humming it and wake up with gloomy positivity swirling through my head. The first eight songs would make anyone proud to have recorded them. Unless they think the songs suck but what do they know anyway? Purchase this record. It's fun to have something to beautiful to listen to.
Books Being Read
Youth - J.M. Coetzee: After having burned through Disgrace, one of the best books I have read, I am excited to hit this one. The language Coetzee uses is brief and compact. He seems to be a master in emotional efficiency.
